Why doesn't our resume get a reply?

Along time ago we could send in our resume's and we would get back a letter saying that they would like us to come in for a second interview or that our services are not needed at this time. But now, even at resturant chains like Mcdonalds you go and turn in a resume and application, possibly go through the first interview and are stuck at the phone like candice from "Phineas and Ferb" waiting for a call from Jeremy, when in reality you are waiting for a second interview. The reason being is that generally HR looks at your resume for about 10 seconds and its going on up to the boss who in turn fowards it to the hiring manager(thats if the boss likes your resume) who will possible take 5 minutes to look at it and make a decison on it. The best thing for you to do, wait about 2 weeks then find out who has it and try to schedual an interview or meeting. Wouldn't it be easier if we were all sims, at least we could chose the job we wanted and wouldn't have to worry about not getting one.
